According to the Federal Government, the total area of the park will increase to 916 thousand hectares, after the expansion of around 92 thousand hectares.
ICMBio stated that the expansion aims to strengthen the protection of water resources in the region and expand ecotourism and local income generation.
"The expansion of the park ends one of the longest and most emblematic socio-environmental struggles in the Brazilian Northeast. After decades of mobilization of communities, researchers, civil society organizations, environmental agencies and the Public Ministry, Serra Vermelha now has full protection, guaranteeing the definitive conservation of a strategic area", pointed out the Federal Government.

The Serra das Confusões National Park is the largest conservation unit in Piauí. The place is characterized by unique landscapes of the transition between the caatinga and the cerrado.
Tour guide Jadiel Dias, who accompanied actress Camila Pitanga and her family during her trip to the site, explained to g1 that the visit departs from the municipality of Caracol, which is 600 km from Teresina.
"The visit to the park starts from Caracol, whoever is in São Raimundo Nonato, continues to Caracol, which is the beginning of the park. It's a walk that we usually do between 8 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon, passing through caves and viewpoints", he explained.
The main points of the park are:
Caatinga Colors Trail
Anel dos Sertões Viewpoint
Boi Creek
Walls with cave paintings
The visit is free, but it is mandatory to be accompanied by accredited guides who know the region.
