Baby shark is captured by fisherman in Boa Viagem
A baby shark was accidentally captured by a fisherman, at Praia de Boa Viagem, in the South Zone of Recife. The incident happened on Wednesday night (10), nine days after a 19-year-old girl had her leg torn off on the same beach. The day before, an 11-year-old child had already been bitten, at Praia de Piedade, in Jaboatão dos Guararapes, in Greater Recife.
Shortly after the accidental capture, the fisherman released the shark back into the sea. Hunting and killing wild animals threatened with extinction is a violation of the environment and may also be an environmental crime, depending on the species.

The video was published on Instagram by the Pernambuco Fishing portal. The images show a man holding the small shark and playing with it, showing the animal's teeth to the camera and calling it "Junior".
"Look there. Have a good trip, my love. Don't hesitate, no. Curious is f***. Go into the water, look at your feet, no", says the fisherman, as he releases the shark into the sea.
According to biologist André Maia, based on the video, it is not possible to identify the species with certainty. However, he believes it is a bull shark. This was the species involved in the incident in which an 11-year-old boy was bitten and lost his leg.
"I would venture to say that it is a bull shark, but, as I say, it is very difficult to identify it just by looking. You need to have an animal, do some more detailed analysis, because they are very similar when they are young. It is important to remember that the fisherman did what was right, caught the animal, as they are protected by environmental law, return the animal back to the ocean", he said.

André Maia also recalled that the sea is the natural habitat of sharks, and that, therefore, environmental education is essential to prevent incidents.
"The population has to understand that the oceans are where sharks live, their natural habitat. This is how we need to treat it. I know that, as it is close to the incidents that happened, people are scared and frightened, but we have to remember that the ocean is the natural habitat of marine animals and not ours. [...] The animal being able to reproduce there, having reproductive success, is normal. Especially when it concerns some species, such as the flathead, which reproduces in part estuarine", he declared.
