Africa experienced a shift in economic leadership between Morocco and South Africa in 2025, according to the continent's industrialization index established by the African Development Bank (AfDB). Based on real industrialization (manufacturing, exports, value added and diversification), in addition to GDP, this ranking has seen the breakthrough of countries like Senegal, Namibia and Eswatini.
