A pet rabbit was decisive in saving a family during a fire recorded in the early hours of this Tuesday (9), in a residence on Rua Major Isidoro, in the Petrópolis neighborhood, South Zone of Manaus. The animal began to act unusually, knocking and scratching the bedroom door, which woke up the residents and allowed them to escape in time. Watch the video above. According to the Amazonas Military Fire Department (CBMAM), the incident was attended to during the early hours of the morning. The team used around 800 liters of water to control and extinguish the fire in the property. Five people were in the house at the time of the fire: Miguel Mendes, 63, Natália França, 38, Ingrid Magalhães, 23, Miguel Antônio, 19, and baby Maria Luíza Ribeiro, nine months old. Only one person required pre-hospital care at the scene and was subsequently released. 📲 Join the g1 AM channel on WhatsApp Resident Miguel Mendes reported that the rabbit Nina, raised by the family six years ago, used to circulate around the kitchen at night and had never exhibited similar behavior. "She knocked once, then another. The third time it was stronger. When I opened the door, I saw the fire already in my son's room and in the kitchen. It was despair", he said. According to him, the alert made by the animal was essential for everyone to be able to leave the residence safely. After the family left, Nina disappeared for a few minutes, but was located by firefighters in a nearby alley and returned to her owners. "She only did this when there was no food in the bowl. Other than that, she had never done anything like it," he said. We find it hard to believe, but she was the one who warned us anyway," he said. The family reported that Nina has lived with them for six years and also maintains close interaction with the nine-month-old baby.
