According to the police, the decision was made after they discovered that they would need to bear the costs of treating the animal. When questioned, the woman initially stated that the dog had died and said she would "do anything" to have him alive again. According to the police, she ended up confessing to the abandonment and reported the participation of her friend, who had simulated rescuing the animal. The two women were charged with the crime of animal abandonment. The investigation was forwarded to the Public Ministry of Mato Grosso do Sul (MPMS), which should analyze the case.
