Pope Leo XIV consecrated the Tower of Jesus Christ on June 10 and celebrated a solemn mass at the Sagrada Familia Cathedral in Barcelona. The Tower of Jesus Christ is the central and tallest of the 18 towers of the temple, work on it was completed in February. With its construction, the Sagrada Familia became the tallest Christian church in the world, surpassing Ulm Cathedral by 11 meters. The ceremony of consecration of the tower (the temple itself was consecrated by Benedict XVI in 2010) took place on the centennial anniversary of the death of the architect Antonio Gaudi, who was involved in the construction of the Sagrada Familia since 1883. In total, work on the temple has been going on for 144 years. Upon completion of the construction of the Tower of Jesus Christ, the church acquired its finished appearance, but local finishing work is expected to continue for several more years.
