7-year-old child dies after being run over on BR-222, in Vargem Grande A 7-year-old child, identified as Heitor Gabriel Rodrigues Alves, died after being run over by a truck on Tuesday afternoon (9), on BR-222, in the village of Pontal da Areia, close to the village of Leite, in Vargem Grande, a municipality located 172 km from São Luís. According to information found at the scene, Heitor was trying to cross the federal highway while driving a bicycle when he was hit by the cargo vehicle. The impact of the collision sent the child off the road. According to reports, the stretch does not have adequate signage or pedestrian crossings, which increases the risks for those who live on the banks of BR-222. What do the authorities say? In a note, the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT) informed that BR-222 has pedestrian crossing lanes in the sections that pass through towns and locations with greater movement of people. According to the agency, in front of the aforementioned school, the signage complies with road safety standards, with pedestrian crossings, speed bumps and horizontal and vertical signs to guide highway users.
