Facade of Campo Grande City Council Reproduction The Campo Grande City Council changed the internal regulations and defined a period for the election of the Board of Directors. The new rule, published in the Official Gazette this Tuesday (9), establishes that the choice must take place between October and December of the last year of the mandate, with inauguration on January 1st. The change complies with a court decision, which annulled the early re-election of the president, councilor Epaminondas Vicente Silva Neto, known as "Papy". ✅ Click here to follow the g1 MS channel on WhatsApp The change was made after the suspension of the vote held in July last year, which had returned Papy to the position for the 2027/2028 biennium. The decision followed a popular action. In the sentence, judge Eduardo Lacerda Trevisan considered the understanding of the Federal Supreme Court (STF). According to the STF, the choice of leaders of the legislative houses should only take place in the final stretch of the mandate. Councilor Carlos Augusto Borges, "Carlão" (PSD), current first secretary of the Board of Directors and former president for two terms, stated that the previous regulations did not provide a deadline for the election. "As we changed the regulations, it was left open and the president who was serving one term could be re-elected, but there was no deadline for when the re-election could take place", said Carlão. The suspension of the election also involved the Public Ministry (MP). The body reported that the change in rules was agreed with councilors to avoid new processes. In exchange, the Chamber committed to canceling the previous election and calling a new vote within the defined deadline. Councilman Papy did not participate in this Tuesday's session (10) and claimed an external agenda. Over the phone, he said he will respect the court's decision. Councilor Luiza Ribeiro (PT) assessed that the change brings more security to the process. "It's good because it creates stability both for society and for the councilors. Now we know exactly, it is disciplined in our rules, when the elections for the board of directors are held. And now, from October to December, we have this period to coordinate, organize the board, in short, hold the election", highlighted Luiza. Now on g1 Watch videos from Mato Grosso do Sul:
