In the case of the Prudente region, currently, the rescued animals are sent to the Wild Animal Protection Association (Apass), in Assis, as happened with a giant anteater baby, recently rescued in Presidente Venceslau (SP), sent to the unit.
The new wild animal rehabilitation center in the capital of western São Paulo is scheduled to open from 2028, as is the one in Itapeva. The Cetras de Jales should be delivered in 2027.
The units will be installed in areas belonging to the Department of Highways (DER-SP), adapting existing buildings and constructing specific enclosures for wildlife.
In the case of Botucatu and Araçatuba, the cities will receive Cetra-schools, based on the agreement signed between the Secretariat of Environment, Infrastructure and Logistics (Semil) and the São Paulo State University (Unesp).
The Cetras-schools will have a profile focused on teaching, research and extension, integrating specialized veterinary care, professional training and the production of scientific knowledge applied to the conservation of wildlife. These two centers are expected to be delivered in the second half of this year.
DER-SP will also provide support for the construction of three centers, in partnership with Semil, starting at R$9 million for physical infrastructure, while Semil will invest R$30.75 million in the operation of services and maintenance of technical teams.
The resources include works, equipment, adaptation of existing structures and operational costs of the units.
In the case of Cetras-escolas in Botucatu and Araçatuba, the investment under the agreement signed between Semil and Unesp will be R$27.45 million over five years.
The agreement was signed between the Government of São Paulo, the MP-SP and PGE-SP within the scope of negotiations related to a public civil action on the expansion of the structure for serving wildlife in the state.
