Eugène Rwamucyo's appeal trial opened this Tuesday, June 9 in Paris. This former Rwandan doctor, now aged 67, was sentenced in October 2024 to 27 years of criminal imprisonment by the Paris Assize Court, in particular for complicity in genocide and complicity in crimes against humanity, during the genocide of the Tutsis in 1994. He notably played a role in the burial of tens of thousands of bodies in mass graves in Butare. But the extent of his involvement in the planning and execution of the genocide was debated at first instance.
