Influencer and journalist denounces attempted rape on the shore of Greater João Pessoa A journalist and influencer from Paraíba, Dalu Melo, reported having suffered an attempted rape on the edge of the city of Cabedelo, in Greater João Pessoa, this Tuesday morning (9). She reported the case in a video published on social media. When contacted, the corporation did not say whether it had already taken any action following the complaint on social media. In the video, Dalu Melo reports that the incident happened around 9am. She says she was returning from a run when she needed to help an elderly woman cross a canal in the Intermares neighborhood. According to her, the elderly woman was afraid of suspicious men in the area and had already had a request for help denied by another pedestrian to cross. The journalist and influencer even picked up a piece of wood to escort the elderly woman in case she needed defense. The crime happened moments later, when she was alone and approaching her own car. "I'm approached by a man masturbating. And the act isn't enough, they still have to verbally constrain you. And at that moment, I have an instinct to react. It's much stronger than me. Then I rationalize that it could be dangerous, that it could do anything. But, at the time, it's much stronger than me and, at the same time, when I saw it, I screamed. I screamed for help, asking for help. And there was no one on the beach because it was time, well, nine o'clock in the morning, in a Tuesday, which is not common", he highlighted. The victim also said that the man tried to take the bag she was carrying, but she managed to keep the belongings. After that moment, the man ran away. He was not identified and was not arrested until the last update of this report. "When I saw that, unfortunately, most perverted men, they are cowards. So, when you face them, they panic, in despair. And then, he ran away. I ran after him, screaming for help, I'm even hoarse. Screaming for help. And the worst of all is that this guy managed to escape", she said. Dalu Melo also highlighted that some men who were on the route the suspect ran after the crime even told her to calm down and that the episode was treated by them as something within "normality", not seeing the seriousness of the situation. "No car passed, nothing happened. But the men who were there at the time were completely complicit in this guy's behavior. And then, what angers me the most, is that as a woman in this shitty country, we have to accept a place of vulnerability, of allowing ourselves to be attacked (...) As a result, I ran away, when someone approached me, asking me to calm down. I still said, 'ah girl, it's normal, this always happens here'", she said. She also highlighted that she had died in the Intermares neighborhood at other times in her life and that she had gone through other similar traumatic episodes.
