The Superior Court of Justice (STJ) denied this Tuesday (9) a request for freedom from the defense of influencer and lawyer Deolane Bezerra, arrested on May 21st in an operation by the São Paulo Public Ministry and the São Paulo Civil Police. The authorities' action, called Operation Vérnix, investigates a money laundering scheme by the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) faction. STJ schedules testimony from women who accuse Minister Buzzi of harassment. The influencer's defense filed a request for habeas corpus that intended to convert her preventive detention into home detention, due to the fact that she was the mother and sole responsible for a 9-year-old child. The appeal was judged by the Fifth Panel of the STJ, which unanimously rejected the defense lawyers' thesis and reiterated the arguments for the influencer's arrest. “There is an individualized and detailed account of the aggravating party’s participation in the crimes under investigation, indicating her intense involvement with the criminal organization and the money laundering scheme discovered by the criminal prosecution bodies.” On May 21, Deolane was arrested at her home, a mansion located in Alphaville, a neighborhood with luxury condominiums in the metropolitan region of São Paulo. With more than 20 million followers on social media, the influencer was indicted for the crimes of criminal organization and money laundering. She is detained at the Tupi Paulista Women's Penitentiary, in the interior of São Paulo. Deolane was arrested for the first time in September 2024, during Operation Integration. At the time, she was detained in Recife by the Civil Police, who were investigating a money laundering and illegal gambling scheme.
