SANDRA COHEN: Attacks between Iran and Israel complicate Trump's action to negotiate an agreement and quickly exit the war
"I have just been informed by our Great Armed Forces that last night the Iranians shot down one of our highly sophisticated Apache helicopters while on patrol over the Strait of Hormuz. There were two pilots on board, both are safe and unharmed. Still, the United States must necessarily respond to this attack," Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
The Apache helicopter was operating in the Strait of Hormuz region when it crashed around 6:30 p.m. Monday, according to U.S. Army Central Command. The two crew members were rescued in stable condition about two hours after the incident.
Captain Tim Hawkins, spokesman for the ministry, stated that the rescue of the soldiers took place in the water and was carried out with an unmanned drone boat. The model of the equipment is not yet known, only that it is around 7.3 meters long.

The cause of the helicopter crash is under investigation, according to the US Army. This would have been the first Apache helicopter lost by the US during the war in the Middle East, which has been ongoing since February 28. Previously, the US military suffered drone losses in the region.
Before returning to the White House after attending one of the NBA finals games in New York, President Donald Trump told journalists that the crew members are safe and that the country will issue a report on what happened this Tuesday (9). Trump also said the peace deal is in the "final phase," which could take "two or three days."
"We are in the final phase of what will be a very, very good agreement," said the president.

Earlier, the president may have prevented a further escalation in the war between Israel and Iran by warning Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he could end up "fighting alone" if he decided to resume large-scale attacks. The information was revealed on Monday (8) on the North American website Axios.
“I said, ‘Bibi, you better be careful, or very soon you will be on your own,’” Axios reported, attributing the statement to Trump in a phone conversation with Netanyahu.
The conversation would have taken place on Sunday night, hours after Iran launched missiles towards Israeli territory. The Iranian attack, carried out due to Israeli bombings against Lebanon, occurred amid the fragile truce in the war between the two countries — in which the USA is also involved.
Trump called Netanyahu to stop him from retaliating against Tehran, fearing it would lead to a resumption of conflict. The Israeli prime minister, however, contradicted Trump and retaliated against Iran on Sunday night. Despite the request, the American president understood that it would be almost impossible to prevent Netanyahu from responding to the Iranian attack, according to Axios.

Even so, Trump continued to pressure against a new escalation between Iran and Israel, criticizing what he called the "stupidity" of the aggressions. This Monday (8) the two countries suspended mutual attacks, but maintained a threatening tone.
According to Axios, the telephone conversation between Trump and Netanyahu on Sunday night had a much less tense tone than another conversation between the two that took place days earlier, when the two argued and the US president called the Israeli prime minister "completely crazy". According to the North American press, the White House's coordination managed to prevent at the last minute a large-scale attack by Israel against Iran, which would involve dozens of Israeli jets. As a result, retaliation has only been limited to targeted bombing on Sunday, so far.
