Revocation of the mandate of councilor Cleiton Profeta (PL) will be analyzed in plenary
Joinville councilor Cleiton Profeta (PL) had his mandate revoked on Monday (8) after a vote in the Chamber of the most populous city of Santa Catarina, in the north of the state. The decision received 13 votes in favor, while two councilors voted for acquittal and three abstained.
The immediate loss of his position and political rights for eight years comes after a fight that allegedly involved Profeta and councilor Henrique Deckmann (MDB). According to the police report registered by the emedebista, he was called “old gagá” by his colleague after a discussion about the agenda of a meeting (read more below).

The politician's defense informed that they will ask the court for the annulment of the process and request that the councilor return to parliamentary duties.
In a note, the PL councilor informed that he will continue to adopt all applicable legal measures “to seek a review of this decision and guarantee respect for due legal process and democratic principles” (in full below).
Fight between councilors
The process that resulted in the loss of Cleiton Profeta's mandate began in March this year, when a complaint made by councilor Henrique Deckmann (MDB) was formalized against Profeta for breach of parliamentary decorum.
According to the police report, the meeting called by the president of the Joinville City Council (CVJ), Diego Machado (PSD), on February 25, ended up escalating into a fight and a police report was registered by Deckmann against his colleague.
The conversation aimed to reinforce the importance of mutual respect, responsible dialogue and harmonious coexistence between parliamentarians.
Profeta stated that he would not stay at the meeting “if this was the topic”.
Deckmann, however, said that the PT member had already informed him before the meeting that he would need to be absent due to another commitment.
The document states that the PL councilor then intervened and asked Profeta to stay at the meeting, at which point Profeta allegedly approached “practically pasting his face”. He reported that "he was just not stopped at that moment because he retreated, walking backwards while the offender continued to advance.”
In the complaint, Deckmann states that he was offended by Profeta, including being called an “old gagá”.

What Cleiton Profeta says
"I welcome the decision taken by the majority of councilors and I cannot fail to register my deep disagreement and revolt with the result. From the beginning, I maintained that this process was marked by relevant legal questions, nullities and situations that compromised the necessary impartiality that is expected from any trial.
Still, the process continued and the decision was made. I have a clear conscience that I never betrayed the trust of the voters who placed me in the City Council. I was elected to monitor, report irregularities, confront established interests and defend what I believe in.
That's exactly what I did throughout my term. This process always had sides, always had interest and always had one objective: to remove from the council a councilor who did not bow to the political system installed in Joinville. The Novo Party, which built its national image by talking about freedom, supervision and combating privileges, showed its true face in Joinville. To do so, they had the support of PT and MBL to impeach me.
When the inspection started to become annoying and the population understood what was really happening in the management of this city, they abandoned their speech and resorted to the same methods of the old politics that they claimed to combat.
It is impossible to ignore the pressure exerted behind the scenes to guarantee this result. Many councilors came to recognize the weaknesses of the process, but, at the time of voting, the weight of the government, political agreements and obscure interests prevailed.
The revocation of a mandate legitimately won at the polls does not affect just one councilor. It directly affects thousands of citizens who chose to be represented by an independent, firm and active voice.
I will continue to adopt all applicable legal measures to seek a review of this decision and ensure respect for due legal process and democratic principles.
The fight doesn’t end here.”
