Ipê-rosa flowering: record delights residents of Buriti dos Montes
Ipês are part of the Piauí landscape every year. The beautiful and ephemeral flowering usually yields photos and videos taken by residents and nature lovers, such as the case of environmentalist Dionísio Carvalho, who shared images of the ipê-rosa, recorded in the Buriti dos Montes region, in the Poti Canyon, in the north of the state.
According to biologist Ribamar Rocha, the flowering of ipê-rosa is different from ipê of other colors. Pink flowers last 5 to 10 days and, due to genetic factors and variability in environmental conditions, they do not bloom at the same time as those of other trees.

"The canyon is located in a predominantly Caatinga region, but it can have humid forest and even rocky savannah. So it is a transition area, where we will find several types of vegetation. This humidity corridor can favor the occurrence of at least three types of ipê, yellow, purple and white and they will flower predominantly from July to September", explains the expert.
The Poti Canyon region is located between the municipalities of Buriti dos Montes, Juazeiro do Piauí and Castelo do Piauí. The natural spectacle features rock walls and different geological formations along a 140km stretch of the Poti River. Tourism in the area is based on tours of waterfalls, landscapes and archaeological sites.

Ribamar Rocha also explains that drought intensifies the flowering of this plant. Therefore, the population can expect the flowering to happen a little earlier than expected.
"This year, as high temperatures and less rain are expected, we will possibly have beautiful spectacles of the ipês flowering, because the drought anticipates the flowering, the low humidity even intensifies this flowering. They lose their leaves before flowering. So we have that intense flowering, very beautiful and that we see from very far away", explains Professor Ribamar.
