Mass escape from the Maués prison unit: police still looking for inmates
The mass escape
At the time of the escape, 14 inmates managed to escape from the Maués Prison Unit during sunbathing hours. According to investigations, the prisoners sawed through the structure's bars and managed to access the external area. The police highlighted, at the time, that the fact that the prison was surrounded by a dense forest area made it easier for inmates to disperse and escape.
Almost six months after the episode, security forces reported that ten of the fugitives have already been located and returned to the prison system. However, police continue to search for four other men who remain at large. They are:
Vitor Gabriel Gonçalves Pantoja
Robert William Gonçalves Pantoja
Dioncemar de Oliveira Rodrigues
Luiz Prestes Caldeira Neto
The Civil Police and Military Police ask for the public's collaboration to locate the suspects. Information about the whereabouts of any of the four fugitives can be passed on anonymously and confidentially via the hotline 181 or the emergency telephone number 190.
