The President of the Transitional Sovereign Council and head of the Sudanese army, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, met on Sunday June 7, 2026 Pekka Haavisto, the UN special envoy to Sudan. The discussions focused on ongoing efforts to bring peace to Sudan, especially after the meeting between political parties close to the two belligerents, initiated by the Five Mechanism with the UN and the African Union, which took place in Addis Ababa last week.
