Church of the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona inaugurates Tower of Jesus Christ
The culmination of the Pope's visit to Spain will be the inauguration mass of the Tower of Jesus of the Sagrada Familia, in Barcelona, a church under construction for more than a century. Our correspondents had exclusive access to areas of the basilica that are restricted to the public.
The tower of Jesus Christ forever changed the landscape of Barcelona. It made the Sagrada Familia the tallest church in the world – 172.5 m high. At the top, a four-pointed cross, which follows the same double-twisted geometry sculpted inside the basilica. A signature of Antoni Gaudí - God's architect, as he became known. He believed that nature germinated incredible structures, that it was not necessary to invent forms, but to replicate them.

Anyone who sees the simplicity of the columns - which look like giant trees - may not imagine the complex mathematics in the DNA of this work, in which the curves are the result of the movement of straight lines. As shown in practice by Jordí Fauli, the current chief architect of the Sagrada Família. The seventh, after the death of Antoni Gaudí.

Faulí received the team in the model room, which is the big brain of this construction. He explained that Gaudí knew he would not see the finished work and, therefore, based the project on geometric principles, so that his successors could complete it even without the details of the original project - partially destroyed during the Spanish civil war in the 1930s.
The works have been going on for more than 140 years, and Faulí didn't want to say exactly when they would end. Gaudí used to say that he was in no rush to finish this project because his client - God - had all the time in the world.
