340 years ago, Andrei Osterman was born - the son of a Lutheran pastor, who later became an associate of Peter I, a powerful vice-chancellor of the Russian Empire and the arbiter of the destinies of millions of people. Historians still cannot reach a consensus on the assessment of his personality. Osterman’s activities are associated with both the successful completion of the Northern War for Russia and the notorious Bironovism regime.
