Guo, a travel influencer from Henan province west of Shanghai, and his 8-year-old border collie Chutou have more than 1.5 million subscribers on Douyin, China's TikTok, and nearly 100,000 subscribers on YouTube. But on May 11, the dog disappeared while the influencer was traveling. After two weeks of research, he discovered that his dog had been kidnapped, sold, killed and eaten in a restaurant for 180 yuan, or 23 euros. Devastated, he tries to take legal action against Chutou's captors. An investigation was nevertheless opened by the Ningling police and the kidnapper could be sentenced to three years in prison for theft. No Chinese law currently prohibits the consumption of dog meat in the country.
