Witnesses reported that the BMW involved in the accident that killed five people in Imbé de Minas was traveling at high speed moments before leaving the road and falling into a bank about 80 meters high, in the rural area of the municipality, in the East of Minas.
The accident happened around 9:40 pm on Saturday (6), in a stretch known as Córrego dos Lelés. The car left the road, overturned several times and fell down the bank, in an area that was difficult to access. Five occupants died at the scene and a 30-year-old woman was rescued in serious condition.

According to information provided to the Military Police, witnesses stated that approximately two kilometers before the accident site, the BMW was traveling at high speed and overtook another vehicle in the region known as Serra de Pedra.
According to reports, a witness said he was in a snack trailer, talking to the victims at around 9:30 pm. According to her, all the occupants of the car were drinking alcohol, including the driver.
The witness said he was not in the vehicle at the time of the accident because he was in the bathroom there. By the time he managed to get out, the car had already left the area.
The circumstances of the accident are still being investigated by the authorities.

The five fatal victims were identified as:
Romerio Magela da Silva, 38 years old
Taize Alves Lopes de Frias Novais, 28 years old
Ana Paula Marcolino Ribeiro, 24 years old
Alef Jamir dos Reis Silva, 24 years old
Frank Junior Lopes de Frias, 25 years old
A 30-year-old woman was found with vital signs and taken to a hospital in Caratinga, where she remains hospitalized in serious condition.
Due to the height of the cliff and the difficulty in accessing the site, the rescue mobilized teams from the Military Police, the Fire Department and the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu). The victims were found at different points on the slope, along the path of the fall.
The bodies were removed from the scene by a funeral home and sent for legal proceedings. Civil Police expertise was in the area and carried out technical work.
City Hall declared official mourning
Due to the deaths, the City of Imbé de Minas declared three days of official mourning in the municipality. During this period, flags must remain flown at half-mast in all public buildings.
An optional point was also decreed this Monday (8) in municipal public offices. The measure does not apply to services considered essential, such as urgent and emergency care in the health sector, patient transport, garbage collection and other services that cannot be interrupted.
The decree was signed by the mayor and came into force this Sunday (7).
