It was a record seizure that left its mark. In early May, a cargo ship leaving Sierra Leone was intercepted with more than 30 tons of cocaine on board. A spectacular cargo which illustrates the growing importance of West Africa in global drug trafficking. This is what reveals a new investigation published this Monday by the NGO Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime. According to its authors, Sierra Leone has become an important link in a hitherto poorly documented trafficking route.
