Cyclists unite to revitalize space and preserve community legacy in São João The Praça da Paz do Jardim Recanto do Bosque, in São João da Boa Vista (SP), gained new life thanks to the union of cyclists who decided to transform the space into a meeting point, leisure and coexistence. The movement continues the legacy of the Portuguese Orlando Silva, who began caring for the site more than ten years ago. 📱 Follow g1 São Carlos and Araraquara on Instagram Praça da Paz is revitalized by cyclists in São João da Boa Vista, SP Rodrigo Sargaço/EPTV Abandonment after Orlando's death Orlando died in 2019 and, in the following years, the space was abandoned. But four months ago the Travessia Bikers group began a revitalization process. "So everyone here brings a seedling. On weekends you see people bringing pots, look how beautiful it is. There are people irrigating our square", said cyclist Eliseu Domingues. I don't know if you noticed, but these coconut trees here are tying up some orchids. So, it's not a donation, no one asks for anything, everyone brings what they can, there are a lot of people", said cyclist Rafael Trefilho. The space also received tributes with colorful plaques and positive messages. One of the group's cyclists, Jorge Deus, passed away last year and his friends decided to pay homage to his colleague there. We had a very big loss in our group last year, and his last name was Deus. We made a point of honoring him with one of the plaques. For those who knew Jorge, hail Jorge. It’s a way of shining a light, a reference to the great Jorge, who I’m sure would be here with us”, said Rafael. One brings an orchid, another comes with a watering can and helps with the plants. When we see that a sign is needed, we do it. We even improved the entrance ramp for wheelchair users. We thought: we need to do something for this space, even in memory, especially to make it a pleasant place for everyone", he highlighted.
